The small county of Davis lies sandwiched between the Wasatch Mountains and the Great Salt Lake. Davis County consists of 16 cities. The county boundary swings out into the lake to include the starkly beautiful Antelope Island. In fact, the lake takes up about 365 square miles of the county, leaving only 265 square miles of land. These numbers change from year to year, however. When the lake is low, it covers much less land area.

Streams from the mountains to the east have provided water for agriculture and, more recently, for its fast-growing population.

As of the 2010 United States Census, the population was 306,479, making it Utah's third-most populous county.

The large Hill Air Force Base is a major employer, and the area also hosts a number of mostly technology-oriented manufacturers. These include Thiokol, Iomega, and Levelor, as well as a large processing center for the IRS. The area is a freight transportation hub, as goods arrive by road and rail through canyons to the east and are rerouted to all points west.

Suburbs are clean, well laid out, and affordable. Homes are high quality, with large lots and comfortable neighborhoods with a traditional feel.
